SIM Senegal gathered almost 400 participants during the Virtual Summit.

SIM Senegal Virtual Summit brought together 384 attendees interested in the Mining sector in the West African country. Developed under the theme “For a resilient mining sector in Senegal”, the event addressed insightful presentations and panel discussions on mechanisms for optimizing socio-economic benefits for communities, local content in the mining sector: support systems, new strategies for better participation, and innovative solutions for social inclusion and women’s empowerment. The second day was equally intense, addressing technological innovation for the resilience of mining companies, and the next steps for the future of the mining industry in Senegal. During the opening ceremony, the Hon. Minister of Mines and Geology of Senegal, Mr. Oumar Sarr announced that “Mines and Geology will have to play their role as catalyst for growth on the territorial and national levels, especially at a time when post-Covid and pro PAP 2A initiatives form a matrix of consolidated actions, capable of boosting the economy, of supporting the resilience of vital actors and sectors of the economy.” Mrs Rokhaya Samba, Director of Prospection and Mining Promotion at the Ministry of Mines and Geology of Senegal, ended SIM Senegal Virtual Summit with closing remarks, highlighting the importance to keep developing mechanisms for optimizing socio-economic benefits for communities, improve technology, create solutions for social inclusion and women’s empowerment, by equity creating necessary adjustments to develop strategies and any other public policies for the resilience of the mining sector in Senegal. SIM Senegal Conference and Exhibition, already in its 6th edition, has been held on a biennial basis since 2010. After this virtual summit, the live event, once again organised and supported by the Senegalese Ministry of Mines & Geology in association with AME Trade, will take place on 01 – 03 of June 2021, in Dakar.
